A tsunami warning has been issued in the Philippines following a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan, as reported by the country's Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. The earthquake has raised concerns about potential tsunami waves affecting coastal areas fronting the Pacific Ocean.
The warning indicated that high tsunami waves are expected to impact these coastal regions. The first waves were projected to arrive between 8:33 a.m. and 10:33 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
In response to the warning, residents in the coastal areas across the provinces of Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Isabela have been strongly advised to evacuate promptly to higher grounds or move further inland for their safety.
Furthermore, boat owners with vessels in harbors, estuaries, or shallow coastal waters have been urged to secure their boats and relocate away from the waterfront. For boats already at sea, it is recommended that they remain offshore in deep waters until further instructions are provided.
