Transportation Security Administration Administrator David Pekoske was unexpectedly asked to leave his post by incoming Trump officials on Monday morning, as reported by four sources familiar with the matter. This decision came as a surprise to Homeland Security officials who had anticipated Pekoske to continue in his role.
At 11:40 a.m., TSA workers received a message from Pekoske stating that he had been informed by President-elect Trump's transition team that his tenure as administrator would conclude at noon that day, according to one of the sources.
President Donald Trump appointed Pekoske to lead the TSA in 2017. Prior to this role, Pekoske had served in senior positions at the Department of Homeland Security on an interim basis. The position of TSA administrator typically spans five years, and Pekoske had been confirmed for a second term under then-President Joe Biden in 2022. Notably, Pekoske had expressed his intention to continue serving under the Trump administration.
