'Trying to protect themselves' - Jamie Carragher sends 'furious' message to UEFA amid Champions League final chaos

Jamie Carragher said he was 'furious' with UEFA's 'very troubling' statement as Liverpool's Champions League final clash against Real Madrid was delayed.

Kick-off for the final was delayed by 36 minutes following several reports of organisational problems at the stadium leaving Liverpool fans with tickets reportedly locked out.

The message displayed on the screens inside the Stade de France read: “Due to the late arrival of fans at the stadium, the match has been delayed".

However, pictures and video showed thousands of fans queued outside the ground hours before the game. Following UEFA's statement, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher voiced the thoughts of thousands of fans.

Speaking on CBS Sport, Carragher said: "It's very troubling and I'm furious actually with that statement that came up there and maybe what's getting put out there, 'supporters coming late to the game'."

Carragher said in his opinion, UEFA's message inside the stadium was a blatant attempt to cover their own backs. He said: "They're trying to protect themselves right now.

"The organisation outside that stadium is not right."

Elsewhere, Gary Lineker described the situation outside the Stade de France as 'very dangerous' and took aim at UEFA for their organisation.

Lineker took to Twitter, writing: “Finding it impossible to get in the ground. This appears to be very dangerous. Absolute carnage.”
