I'll beat this drum until I die: winter coats are the investment purchase you will never regret making.
Whether you are ticking some of Autumn/Winter 2024's biggest trends (more on that later) with your outerwear, or looking for a more classic, timeless style, a good coat is the foundation of any wardrobe.
Far from an afterthought thrown on as you leave the house, it will not only complete your outfit, but elevate it.
If you are looking to tick those trend boxes, for AW24, I'm seeing three major trends when it comes to outerwear: maxi coats. shaggy coats and capes.
Pavement-skimming coats were seen at David Koma, Gucci, Gauchere, Balenciaga, Carven and Cecilie Bahnsen to name just a few. Those designers favoured tailored maxi coats, though the trend works on any coat style, from puffers to leather coats.
Shaggy coats, a fun, tactile option, is for the maximalist amongst you. Shearling, crochet and faux fur styles were big news on the runway, from Stella McCartney to Ederm, with a show-stopping feather coat shot for our Elevating The Everyday story.
As for capes, they were on virtually every catwalk around, notably at Chloe (a gorgeous lilac leather cape), Bottega Veneta, Celine and Carolina Herrera.
Other broader trends that can easily be applied to your outerwear include the two hues to invest in this season: brown and burgundy.
Of course, it goes without saying, that each year the tried-and-tested camel coat is updated slightly to align with the key trends of the season, and this time is no exception.
