Trust me, these 25 hairstyles for round faces will never go out of style

Halle Bailey with the best hairstyle for round faces.

When it comes to the ideal hairstyles for round faces and general hair trends, there are a few things to take into account to land on one that will compliment this particular face shape. If you need visual inspiration, though, the good news is that many celebrities (with the help of their hairdressers) have mastered the art of creating a timeless hairstyle that works perfectly on a round face.

But first, what makes this face shape exactly so? Round faces are characterised by a soft jawline and equal dimensions; the widest point of the face is the very middle and it's about as long as it is wide (a face that’s longer than it is wide is oval).

As for advice on choosing a style, award-winning hair stylist and salon owner Charlotte Mensah advises "[staying] away from a bob or cut that is all one length. Instead, opt for layers that will give definition and more structure visually."

Certain styles will also appear to lengthen your face. "You can elongate round face shapes by creating soft layering just below the jawline, keeping the shape square throughout," adds Sam Burnett, KMS Global Style Council Member and owner & creative director of Hare & Bone. On that note, ahead are 25 great examples of ideal hairstyles for round faces, as seen on celebrities.

Hairstyles for short hair

You may have previously written off all hairstyles for short hair out of fear that it will accentuate the roundness of your face. In actual fact, you can really work a short hairstyle with a bit of expert advice (and celebrity proof).

"If a bob is your choice of style, go a few inches longer than a traditional bob to balance the roundness of the face," advises Sam. "By creating layering, you ultimately affect the shape [of your face] – round faces should opt for square layers." Charlotte adds: "Tapered natural hair is perfect for women who want a short style with options."

Hairstyles for medium hair

If you're after a mid-length hairstyle, the good news is that your choice is a pretty simple one. "Medium length hair looks great when it’s maintained well. Think fuller, blunt styles with no layering," Sam says. Browsing these hairstyles for medium-length hair is sure to inspire you ahead of your next trip to the salon.

Hairstyles for thick hair

Hairstyles for thick hair don't have to be a difficult ball game—in fact, the added volume will make a round face seem less spherical with a few longer layers. When it comes to celebrities, Kate Upton is one of the stars of thick, long hair, as is Priyanka Chopra.

These voluminous waves will never go out of style.

Hairstyles for thin hair

Lots of layers are your friend when it comes to adding oomph to fine hair– but don't overdo it. "If you have fine hair keep layers longer, as over-layering will only make the hair appear thinner and sparser," Sam explains. These hairstyles for fine hair are all the proof you need that fine hair and a round face can be a winning combination.

The good thing about curls, whether natural or tonged, is they lift the appearance of your hair and can even help to elongate your face shape. Grab your best curling wand to create your own, or clean into your natural coils, curls and waves.
