Trust GXT 38 Tytan and GXT 619 Thorne review: Minimalist speakers that are accessible and affordable

Trust is a well renowned tech company who have been going strong since 1983 specialising in computer and gaming peripherals.

They have released a number of different devices that cater to various budgets and how tech savvy you are. In this review I will be looking at two of the products, the GXT 38 Tytan and GXT 619 Thorne.

Trust’s GXT 38 Tytan is a 2.1 speaker set that can be used with a plethora of devices ranging from PCs, Laptop, smartphones tablet and game consoles. The Tytan set includes two satellite speakers, a subwoofer and wired remote, which also features extra input connectors.

The Tytan speaker set is considerably bigger than your average computer speakers with the subwoofer measuring 25.5 x 25.5 x 24 cm while the satellite speakers come in at 21 x 9 x 10.2 cm.

The size of the satellite’s may be slightly larger than usual but they will still be able to easily slot into any setup. The subwoofer is huge, however its location in your setup will be dictated by what version you purchase.

For this review I looked at the normal iteration which is red and black, but Trust has two different versions that feature RGB lighting, which will probably be more visible in your setup, whereas I just situated the standard one under my desk.

Overall the Tytan is a nice looking speaker set that will probably feel more at home within your computer setup than anything else.

The Tytan comes built with 15cm drivers that are accompanied by a wide frequency range of 20Hz – 20kHz. These speakers are really powerful, being able to output up to 60W RMS and 120W peak power while the subwoofers can pump out 30W of power giving extra bass to your setup.

The satellite speakers are versatile and can be place almost anywhere (Trust)

I was fairly impressed with the overall audio quality and the wide soundstage meant that the speakers were able to produce clear sounding mids and highs that were accompanied by a nice bass.

The speakers don’t come with any extra modes or EQ presets, but there is a bass boost dial at the back which will allow you to control how much bass is in your listening experience.

One thing to note is that the Tytan does not come with any wireless connectivity, which is pretty standard these days, so that’s a little disappointing given its price point.

However it can be connected to a number of devices through its 3.5mm audio connection.

Having only this input connection won’t completely limit you, but if you are an audiophile looking for something that has a HDMI RCA input or Optic cable you’re out of luck here.

But seeing as the Tytan has been designed to be used with your PC, Laptop or game console it will do an admirable job.

Trust GXT 38 Tytan Verdict 3/5

Trust’s GXT 38 Tytan speaker set isn’t going to revolutionise your audio set up, however that being said they do produce respectable audio quality and will sit nicely with your PC or games console.

The second speaker is the GXT 619 Thorne, which is one of Trust’s soundbars that features RGB lighting.

Out of the box the main thing you will instantly notice is the Thorne’s minimalist design that has a dial on the front to control the volume and a touch button at the top to control the RGB lighting.

The Bar itself is on the smaller side measuring 7 x 40 x 7.5 cm and only weighing a mere 0.7kg. This just means that the soundbar can be used in a number of scenarios as its small size and light body make it very versatile.

The speakers are protected by a plastic mesh with the RGB light running underneath. The lights could be a tab brighter and bigger as that is one of the main features and I feel it just didn’t illuminate the room as much as I wanted.

The soundbar is built with a 40 mm driver that is accompanied by a wide frequency range of 20Hz – 20kHz and can output up to 12w of power.

The soundbar did sound better than I expected, projecting nice sounding highs and mids, however it was lacking a good amount of bass which can be crucial depending what audio you want to play.

But overall I was satisfied with the audio quality given the cheaper price point.

It has a minimalist design that will fit any audio set up (Trust)

The Thorne can come with two connectors, the first being a 3.5mm jack for audio and the second being an USB A connection to power the RGB lighting.

It does not come with any wireless connection options which is a frustrating omission as I feel this soundbar could have doubled up as a portable speaker that could be used outdoors due to its light build.

Other than its simple design the soundbar’s other selling point is its RGB lighting and Trust have given you the seven options to choose from, which is a decent amount.

Turst GXT 619 Thorne Verdict 3/ 5

The GXT 619 Thorne soundbar is a minimalist and affordable device from Trust that will be a great addition to gaming setup or serve as an backup soundbar. I was slightly let down by the RGB lighting which didn’t have that dazzling impact I was hoping for.

Trust's GXT 619 Thorne soundbar can be purchase now from Amazon for £27.99
