A top volunteer for Donald Trump’s political operation in New England has been barred from the campaign after spreading misinformation about the campaign's strategy in New Hampshire. The volunteer, Tom Mountain, a former vice chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party, sent an email to supporters claiming that the Trump campaign was pulling out of New Hampshire to focus on other battleground states.
In the email, Mountain stated that the campaign had decided that New Hampshire was no longer a battleground state and would be suspending all resources, including staffers, supplies, and speakers, in the state. He advised Trump supporters to redirect their efforts to Pennsylvania, where the campaign was reportedly more active.
However, the Trump campaign quickly refuted Mountain's claims, stating that he had overstated his involvement and had not been actively working for the campaign since the primary. The campaign spokesperson emphasized that they have a strong presence in New Hampshire, with a headquarters, paid staffers, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers working to support Trump's reelection.
Following the dissemination of the email, Mountain has been barred from volunteering for the campaign. The campaign spokesperson clarified that Mountain's statements were untrue and reiterated their commitment to the New Hampshire operation.
Despite attempts to reach Mountain for comment, he has not responded to inquiries. The incident highlights the importance of accurate communication within political campaigns and the need to ensure that information shared with supporters is verified and aligned with the campaign's official strategy.
