Trump Urges Republicans To Pass SAVE Act Amid Voting Concerns

Republican presidential candidate campaigns in New Hampshire

Former President Donald Trump recently took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to advocate for the passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This legislation aims to amend the National Voter Registration Act by requiring states to collect proof of citizenship from voters for federal elections and remove non-citizens from voter rolls.

In his message, Trump emphasized the importance of passing the SAVE Act, stating that the integrity of the voting system is at risk. He expressed concerns about non-citizen illegal migrants gaining voting rights and accused Democratic politicians of supporting such actions.

Under the proposed legislation, voters would need to provide proof of citizenship through various forms of identification, such as passports, government-issued photo IDs showing U.S. birth, military IDs, or valid photo IDs along with documentation proving citizenship like birth certificates.

While Trump urged Republicans to support the bill, Democratic leaders are advising their House members to vote against it, citing concerns about the potential burden it may place on voters.

If the SAVE Act passes the House, it is expected to face challenges in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Additionally, President Biden has indicated that he would veto the legislation if it reaches his desk.

Trump concluded his message with a warning to crack down on election fraud if re-elected, threatening severe consequences for those involved. He also singled out Mark Zuckerberg, cautioning the Meta CEO to be cautious in his actions.

The debate over the SAVE Act highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding voting rights and election integrity in the United States, with both parties expressing divergent views on how best to address these issues.
