Former President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that he is not familiar with the scandal involving North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson when questioned about potentially withdrawing his endorsement. Trump mentioned, 'I don’t know the situation.'
Other Republicans vying for political positions have distanced themselves from the current North Carolina lieutenant governor following reports of numerous inflammatory comments he made on a pornography website’s message board over a decade ago. These comments included self-identifying as a 'black NAZI,' expressing support for slavery, and making other offensive and sexually explicit remarks.
It was previously reported that Robinson was not invited to Trump's rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, and Trump did not mention Robinson in his speech. The Harris Campaign has sought to link the former president to Robinson, releasing a new television advertisement that juxtaposes Trump's past praise for Robinson with the gubernatorial candidate's anti-abortion statements.
During a recent campaign event, Trump's running mate, JD Vance, declined to confirm whether the Trump campaign still supported Robinson. Vance stated, 'I think it’s up to Mark Robinson to make his case to the people of North Carolina that those weren’t his statements, and I’m going to let him make that case.'
