President Donald Trump recently confirmed that he has been in communication with Chinese President Xi Jinping since assuming office on January 20. During a pre-taped interview aired on Monday, Trump expressed his positive sentiments towards President Xi, stating that he likes him a lot and values their personal relationship. He mentioned that he has not only spoken directly with President Xi but also engages with Chinese officials regularly.
Furthermore, Trump asserted that he has a deep understanding of North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, claiming to know him better than anyone else. This statement comes amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts and tensions in the region.

Despite the ongoing dialogue between the US and China, Trump indicated that he was not in a hurry to engage in further discussions with President Xi. This stance was made apparent on the same day that the Trump administration implemented 10% tariffs on Chinese imports, sparking retaliatory measures from Beijing.
Last week, China retaliated against the US tariffs by announcing a comprehensive set of economic measures specifically targeting American interests. This move by Beijing was seen as a direct response to the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, escalating trade tensions between the two global economic powers.
