Trump takes the stage in Pa., with mixed review of Dr. Oz

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Former President Donald Trump was welcomed on Friday to western Pennsylvania by buckets of rain.

Mr. Trump spoke from a drenched, mud-filled Westmoreland Fairgrounds on Friday night. His supporters waited hours in the rain, donning their “Trump 2024” or “Make America Great Again” hats below rain ponchos.

While Mr. Trump got a warm welcome from his supporters, Mehmet Oz did not. Mr. Trump hosted the “Save America” rally in support of Mr. Oz’s campaign for U.S. Senate.

Mr. Oz has been criticized as a “Hollywood elite” for the relationships he formed during his time as a daytime TV host. Mr. Trump, however, endorsed him, emphasizing his electability in the general election.

“You’re going to send Dr. Oz to fight for you in the U.S. Senate,” Mr. Trump told the crowd at the start of his remarks.

Before Mr. Trump took the stage at the end of the rainy day, a number of officials spoke, including U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler. When Mr. Reschenthaler mentioned Mr. Oz, some of the crowd booed. Mr. Reschenthaler said U.S. Senate candidate Lt. Gov. John Fetterman is a “serious threat,” and echoed Mr. Trump’s remarks that Mr. Oz is the only candidate who could beat him in the general election in November.

J.D. Vance, a Republican who won the Ohio primary election earlier this week, credited President Trump for his win, and urged the crowd to support Mr. Trump’s other endorsed candidates – including Mr. Oz.

“We need to support the conservative movement, but we need to support America First candidates,” Mr. Vance said. “We need to support the candidates who are endorsed by Donald Trump.”

Mr. Oz gave a short stump speech about his top issues such as energy, and again flaunted his Trump endorsement.

“My whole career has been about helping you,” Mr. Oz said, as the rain drenched him through his white shirt.
