A Trump supporter who was present at the Jan. 6 Capitol riots and even assaulted law enforcement during that day has now been convicted of plotting to kill the same FBI officials who were investigating him.
35-year-old Edward Kelley was charged with conspiracy to murder employees of the United States, solicitation to commit a crime of violence and influencing or retaliating against federal officials by threat. He was convicted of all three charges on Wednesday, reported WBIR.
"In addition to the felonies, Kelley was convicted of eight misdemeanor offenses, including of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, entering and remaining in the Gallery of Congress, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings, destruction of government property under $1,000, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building," said the United States Attorney's Office in a press release on Nov. 8.
The Tennessee resident's trial commenced in Knoxville on Monday. His co-defendant, Austin Carter, testified at the trial and admitted to being aware of and involved in the conspiracy to kill federal agents. He stated that he and Kelley decided "to murder employees of the Federal Bureau of Investigation" in December of 2022.
Initially, the two targeted the FBI Knoxville field office, planning out a random attack by strapping vehicular bombs or incendiary devices to drones, before deciding to target specific officials who had investigated Kelley himself.
He did so while donning a "The Church At Planned Parenthood" sweatshirt, reiterating his pro-life stance on abortion.
