Trump Shares Posts Calling For Prosecution Of Political Opponents

Former President Donald Trump made a series of social media posts on his platform, Truth Social, calling for the trial or jailing of House lawmakers involved in the Capitol attack investigation, special counsel Jack Smith, and others. These posts included references to the QAnon conspiracy theory and doctored images of political figures in prison jumpsuits.

Trump's posts came in response to a new indictment filed against him by Smith related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. The indictment maintains criminal charges but narrows the allegations following a recent Supreme Court ruling granting broad immunity to former presidents.

Despite advice from campaign advisers to focus on policy issues, Trump's posts included calls for prosecution of Smith, imprisonment of lawmakers, and suggestions of trying former President Barack Obama in a military court.

Trump's campaign did not comment on the posts, which also featured phrases associated with the QAnon conspiracy theory. The former president has openly embraced QAnon followers, who believe in baseless theories about Trump fighting a secret campaign against the 'deep state.'

Additionally, Trump is listed as an invited guest speaker at the J6 Awards Gala fundraiser for defendants charged in the Capitol insurrection. The event aims to honor those involved and includes a song titled 'Justice For All,' which Trump has played at his campaign rallies.

While Trump confirmed he won't attend the gala, he has previously expressed intentions to pardon many of those convicted in connection with the Capitol attack. He has shown support for defendants through various events and fundraisers, including hosting a dinner for their family members.
