Trump shares first photos of Air Force One redesign mock-ups

Donald Trump announced an Air Force One redesign in 2018 - now we've had the first glimpse of how it could look.

In an interview with ABC News’ George Stephenopoulous, Mr Trump shared mocked-up images of the redesign, which the president claims has already been discounted by $1.6bn.

“In fact, we added things,” Mr Trump said during the interview. “And I got $1.6bn off the price."

The two designated Air Force One planes, which are highly customised Boeing 747’s, will receive an upgraded red, white, and blue paint job from its current baby blue and white - a design the president does not like.

“Boeing gave us a good deal. And we were able to take that. But I said, ‘I wonder if we should use the same baby blue colours?’ And we’re not,” said Mr Trump in an interview with CBS in 2018.

“Red, white and blue. Air Force One is going to be incredible. It’s gonna be the top of the line, the top in the world. And it’s gonna be red, white and blue, which I think is appropriate.”

The president also alleged the addition of some “secret” features.

Air Force One as it currently looks

“There are a couple of secrets,” he added. “You know what, there are a couple of secrets I don’t think we’re supposed to be talking about.”

The new Air Force One’s will not be ready until 2024, which would be the tail end of a second term Trump presidency.

“I’m doing that for other presidents, not for me.”
