Former President and presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump issued a new statement following his failed assassination attempt, saying "we will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness."

"Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win," the former president added.

The U.S. and global political scene has been shaken up after the shooting in Pennsylvania, where Trump was slightly injured in his ear as the "multiple shots" fired toward him missed him by inches.

The shooter, killed seconds after the attempt by Secret Service, has already been identified by the FBI: it was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Authorities said the motives for his actions are not yet clear. A person with his same name is a registered Republican and would have been old enough to vote for the first time in the November elections. He also donated $15 at the age of 17 to the Progressive Turnout Project through the Democratic ActBlue organization.

Crooks' father, Matthew, told CNN that he would not comment on his son's actions until speaking to law enforcement and he was still trying to figure out "what the hell is going on." Crooks' shots did kill a rally attendee, while two others are critically injured.

In memo by the Trump campaign obtained by The Associated Press, senior staffers thanked the Secret Service and first responders, and urged staffers to remain away from the offices in Washington and West Palm Beach, Florida. "Our highest priority is to keep all of you on this staff safe," the memo says, while also telling staff to not comment publicly on the issue.
