Trump Says 'Things Like This Take Place' When Asked About FSU School Shooting

President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump said "things like these take place" when referring to the shooting at Florida State University, in which at least six people have been wounded and another one has died.

"I've been briefed on this Florida State University in Tallahassee active shooting. It's a shame, horrible thing. Things like these take place. We'll have more to say about it later," Trump said while talking to press at the White House.

Local outlet WFTV reported that five people have died and four have been wounded. According to the local news outlet, two shooters were involved, one of whom is dead.

A Tallahassee Police spokesperson confirmed that one person is in custody, per the Associated Press. The extent of the injured victims' injuries was not immediately known, and authorities have not released additional details about the person in custody.

Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare hospital confirmed that it is "caring for patients related to an incident that has occurred at Florida State University" following the active shooter situation.

An alert system at Florida State University issued an "Active Shooter" warning on Thursday at around 12 p.m. The alert read, "An active shooter has been reported in the area of the Student Union."

University authorities have not yet cleared people to leave their shelter, advising them to continue there. Law enforcement is actively clearing rooms on the main campus. Law enforcement officers will use the safe word SEMINOLE to confirm it is safe to open the door," authorities added.
