Trump's Narrow Loss In 2020 Presidential Election

U.S. President Donald Trump holds a rally to contest the certification of the 2020 U.S. presidential election results by the U.S. Congress in Washington

In the 2020 presidential election, former President Donald Trump secured victories in approximately half of the 50 states, yet fell short in the Electoral College count needed for re-election.

Trump garnered around 47% of the popular vote and 232 electors, while his opponent, Joe Biden, clinched 306 electors to win the presidency.

Among the states won by Trump were Alaska, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Notably, Nebraska and Maine allocate their electoral votes based on congressional districts. Trump secured one elector from Maine's rural 2nd congressional district and four electors from Nebraska by winning the larger congressional districts. Biden, on the other hand, received an elector from Nebraska for winning the urban Omaha district.

Biden's victory was largely influenced by his narrow wins in key states like Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, where Trump had prevailed against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

Looking ahead, Trump is eyeing traditionally Democratic states such as New York and Virginia. Despite being predominantly blue states, they encompass rural regions that lean towards conservative politics, such as Southside Virginia and the Adirondack region of New York.
