Flags at President-elect Donald Trump's private Mar-a-Lago club in West Palm Beach, Florida, have been raised back to full height after initially being lowered to half-staff in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Dec. 29. According to protocol, flags are to be flown at half-staff until the end of January as a mark of respect for Carter.
President Joe Biden and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had directed that U.S. flags be flown at half-staff for 30 days from the date of Carter's death, which would be until Jan. 28. However, Trump has expressed frustration over the flags being at half-staff on Jan. 20, the day he is set to take the oath of office for his second term.
Despite his past criticisms of Carter during the presidential campaign, Trump offered praise for the 39th president in a statement following his death at the age of 100. Trump paid his respects at Carter's casket while it lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda and also attended Carter's state funeral service in Washington last week.
A spokesperson for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the flag-raising at Mar-a-Lago.
