Trump's Influence Acknowledged In Israel-Hamas Cease-Fire Deal

Former U.S. President Trump departs Trump Tower in New York

Progressive leaders in the foreign policy sphere have acknowledged President-elect Donald Trump's influence in the recent cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas. Experts have noted that Trump played a significant role in getting the deal done, with some suggesting that President Biden lacked the assertiveness needed to achieve this outcome earlier.

The Center for International Policy executive vice president highlighted Trump's direct involvement in pressing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to end the conflict, a move that Biden was perceived as unwilling to make. The cease-fire agreement, which also includes the release of hostages, was welcomed by both parties this week.

During a press conference, President Biden outlined the terms of the deal, emphasizing a complete cease-fire, withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the release of hostages held by Hamas. The agreement also includes plans for a major reconstruction effort in Gaza.

Israeli Defense Forces Reserve Brig. Gen. Amir Avivi credited Trump as a key factor in reaching the deal, despite it being on the table since May. Avivi highlighted Trump's firm stance on the release of hostages as a pivotal moment in the negotiations.

White House National Security communications adviser John Kirby recognized Trump's Middle East special envoy, Steve Witkoff, for his role in brokering the agreement. Trump's warning to Hamas that failure to release hostages would result in severe consequences further underscored his influence in the process.

Former foreign policy aide for Sen. Bernie Sanders, Matt Duss, emphasized the shift in dynamics following Trump's involvement, noting that Netanyahu's calculus had changed. While some expressed disappointment in the delay of the cease-fire, there was a collective sense of relief that the agreement was finally reached.

Both Trump's team and the Biden White House have yet to comment on the acknowledgment of Trump's influence in the cease-fire deal.
