Trump's former press secretary points out Melania's 'hidden jab' at husband in speech

Good Morning Britain 's Adil Ray and Ranvir Singh spoke to Anthony Scaramucci, Donald Trump's former press secretary, and Matt Baynard, the 'president's former strategist on Wednesday.

The debate turned fiery as the guests clashed over their opinions on the US president, with one guest even turning on Adil and accusing him of "lying" about police brutality being linked to race.

Anthony launched a scathing attack on Trump and how he has dealt with the pandemic, and said it was "ironic" that Melania Trump called for honesty in a recent speech.

The First Lady made a plea to end violence and looting amid the protests over the shooting of Jacob Blake by police, leaving him paralysed below the waist.

Asked by Adil about Melania's speech at the Republican Convention, Anthony said: "She was the first person to acknowledge the virus and the death toll, 178,000 people that have died, we are on our way to about 250,000 by election day.

"She obviously can't explain to the American people that it's because of the president and his failure to control the virus and to take the epidemiology of the virus seriously.

"She did mention something very ironic about honesty, this is a president who has told 20,000 lies, but the real pernicious lies were the ones about the virus, and politicising things like wearing masks.

"She can't bring up all that stuff, but she did get a hidden jab in there by saying that we deserve honesty from the president."

Adil and Matt ended up in a bitter row over police brutality, as Matt vehemently denied there was any link between police shootings and racism.

Matt denied it had anything to do with race, and told Adil: "Your viewers deserve the truth."

Anthony on the other hand, apologised to viewers for Matt "spreading lies" on the show.

Matt argued we cannot lay any blame to the president for COVID-19 deaths and the recession America is experiencing, while Anthony replied that Trump's supporters were being "gaslit".
