District Attorney Ed Martin penned a public letter to Elon Musk on Monday, vowing to shield DOGE employees from threats and legal repercussions, "no matter what."
Martin, a staunch ally to President Donald Trump, posted the letter on X, affirming that any attempts to target DOGE personnel would be met with legal consequences. "We must keep all our American government employees safe and we must protect the American people's property," he wrote, adding, "We will pursue any and all legal action against anyone who impedes your work or threatens your people."
The letter comes amid rising tensions over the dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and DOGE's controversial access to government systems, including classified files. In recent days, protestors have gathered peacefully outside of government buildings, including USAID headquarters and the US Office of Personnel Management. DOGE officials have faced public scrutiny, with some named online in connection to Musk's efforts to gain access to the US Treasury payment system.
"We will not act like the previous administration, who looked the other way as the Antifa and BLM rioters as well as thugs with guns trashed our capital city," Martin wrote. "We will protect DOGE and other workers no matter what."
Martin went on to warn Musk of potential internal threats. He referenced the recent indictment of a Federal Reserve economist for alleged economic espionage, suggesting that enemies of the US government are actively working against DOGE's mission.
Musk has not publicly responded to the letter, but his recent online activity suggests he remains deeply involved in efforts to overhaul key government agencies.
