Trump's Attorney Alleges Cohen Lied About Retainer Agreement

Trump Organization trial in New York State Supreme Court in New York

During the recent legal proceedings involving former President Donald Trump's attorney Michael Cohen, Trump's current attorney Todd Blanche has raised questions about Cohen's credibility. Blanche alleges that Cohen lied about the existence of a retainer agreement with Trump in 2017.

Blanche referred to an email sent by former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg to Cohen, requesting the preparation of an agreement for monthly payments upon Cohen's departure from the organization. Blanche emphasized that there is no concrete evidence of a written retainer agreement between Cohen and Trump.

Blanche argued that the verbal retainer agreement between Cohen and Trump aligns with the practices of another lawyer, Keith Davidson, who was mentioned during the proceedings. However, Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass objected to Blanche's assertion that the absence of a written agreement was inconsequential.

Blanche maintained that regardless of the lack of a formal written agreement, Cohen served as Trump's personal lawyer. He highlighted the professional relationship between Cohen and Trump, emphasizing Cohen's role as the former president's legal representative.

Blanche questioned the necessity of a retainer agreement in light of the established attorney-client relationship between Cohen and Trump. The ongoing legal dispute has brought to light differing perspectives on the nature of the agreement between the two parties.
