President-elect Donald Trump has requested a federal appeals court to reconsider its decision regarding the $5 million verdict awarded to columnist E. Jean Carroll. The jury found Trump guilty of sexually abusing and defaming Carroll.
Trump's legal team has urged the panel of three judges to either rehear arguments or allow a review by all judges on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. They argue that the panel misinterpreted the law and that their ruling contradicts other federal appellate decisions and the US Supreme Court.
In a filing submitted on Monday, Trump's attorneys stated, 'The Panel's conclusions are based on serious legal errors that are likely to have negative repercussions in future cases.'
Last month, the appeals court panel determined that the trial judge did not misuse his discretion by admitting certain evidence, including the testimony of two other women who accused Trump of sexually assaulting them on separate occasions. Trump has consistently denied these allegations. Additionally, Trump has contested the judge's decision to allow the jury to view the 'Access Hollywood' tape where he is heard making inappropriate comments about women.
