President Donald Trump recently expressed his openness to a potential trilateral meeting with China's President Xi Jinping and Russia's President Vladimir Putin to discuss defense spending. During a press briefing in the Oval Office, Trump mentioned the possibility of collectively cutting military budgets in half.
Trump stated, 'At some point, when things settle down, I'm going to meet with China, and I'm going to meet with Russia - in particular those two. I want to say, 'Let's cut our military budget in half.' And we can do that. I think we'll be able to do it.'
The President indicated that he envisions convening this meeting once the situation in the Middle East deescalates. He emphasized the importance of reducing nuclear weapons and decreasing military expenditures. Trump expressed his willingness to engage in discussions with China and Russia both individually and in a trilateral format.

When asked about the location of the potential meeting, Trump stated that it was not a significant factor. He mentioned, 'I say this - to Putin, to President Xi, I say to everybody: never bothered me, you know? I'm willing to say, 'I'll go first.' It's the end result that counts so it doesn't make any difference.'
Trump's proposal for a trilateral meeting to address defense spending and nuclear disarmament reflects his desire for international cooperation and strategic dialogue among major world powers. The potential outcomes of such discussions could have significant implications for global security and military expenditures.
