Liz Cheney joined a chorus of Republican and Democratic lawmakers over the weekend in condemning former president Donald Trump after he called for the “termination” of parts of the US constitution in order to overturn the 2020 election.
“No honest person can now deny that Trump is an enemy of the Constitution,” tweeted the outgoing Wyoming congresswoman, a sentiment that was picked up by top Democrat Chuck Schumer calling him a “danger to our democracy”.
“He’s calling for an end to America’s constitutional democracy,” Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer said. “He’s out of control and a danger to our democracy.”
In Mr Trump’s latest divisive remarks, posted on his personal Truth Social account Saturday, he repeated his previously debunked claims of electoral fraud.
“A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” wrote Mr Trump. “Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!”
