Trump supporters rally outside Mar-a-Lago after news of FBI raid
Republican leaders and memebers of Congress are backing Donald Trump’s anticipated third run for the White House in response to the FBI raid carried out late on Monday at his residence at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
Indiana Congressman Jim Banks, a pro-Trump hardliner who joined the ex-president and several Republicans at the Trump resort in Bedminster yesterday, told Fox News that “the sooner he kicks off his campaign, the better”.
Also weighing in was South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham. “One thing I can tell you,” he told reporters in his home state, “I believed he was going to run before. I’m stronger in my belief now.”
Mr Trump has accused Joe Biden of knowing in advance that his Florida residence estate was going to be raided. However, the White House has since dismissed the claim as false.
“The president was not briefed, was not aware of it, no. No one at the White House was given a heads-up,” said press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
