President Donald Trump stated that he did not invite Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff to accompany him on his trip to California to survey wildfire damage. Earlier reports had indicated that the White House extended an invitation to Schiff, a known adversary of Trump, to join him on the tour of wildfire devastation. However, a spokesperson for Schiff mentioned that he would not be able to attend due to scheduled nomination votes in the Senate.
The Senate is set to vote later in the day on Pete Hegseth's nomination to lead the Department of Defense. When questioned about why he extended an invitation to Schiff, despite referring to him as 'scum' in recent remarks, Trump responded that he was unsure and suggested that it might have been a cost-saving measure if Schiff had joined the trip.
Trump is embarking on a multi-day journey that includes stops in North Carolina, California, and Nevada. The purpose of the trip is to assess the wildfire damage in California and engage in various official duties in the other states he will be visiting.
