Former President Donald Trump has dismissed reports suggesting that former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is being considered as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election. Trump clarified on Truth Social that Haley is not under consideration for the VP slot.
A recent report from Axios claimed that Haley was in the running to be Trump's nominee for vice president. Haley had previously launched her presidential campaign in February 2023, becoming the first major candidate to challenge Trump. She suspended her White House campaign on March 6 after facing Trump in a two-candidate showdown from the New Hampshire primary through Super Tuesday.
Despite exiting the race, Haley has not endorsed Trump. She stated in March that it is up to Trump to earn the votes of those who did not support him. Haley has not spoken with Trump since leaving the race.
In a recent GOP presidential primary in Indiana, Haley garnered nearly 22% of the vote, indicating ongoing support for her despite no longer being in the presidential nomination race.
During her campaign, Haley advocated for a robust U.S. foreign policy, differing from Trump's America First agenda. She engaged in debates with rival Vivek Ramaswamy over America's overseas role.
Reacting to the report, Donald Trump Jr. expressed relief on social media, suggesting that Haley's team may have floated her VP consideration to boost a PAC fundraiser.
Haley is set to meet with major donors to her Republican presidential campaign in Charleston, South Carolina, to express gratitude. Sources indicate that she will not be encouraging donors to contribute to Trump's general election campaign and that no endorsement of Trump is imminent.
