Trump expressed his belief that a deal could have been made to improve the situation in Ukraine, criticizing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their support of the nation. He indicated that if reelected, he would end US aid to Ukraine.
During his speech, Trump also mentioned Zelensky's visits to the US, claiming that the Ukrainian leader would walk away with $60 billion each time. He referred to Zelensky as 'probably the greatest salesman on Earth.'
Notably, Trump and Zelensky are not currently scheduled to meet while the Ukrainian leader is in the US for the United Nations General Assembly. Trump's campaign has been critical of Zelensky, particularly in response to an interview where Zelensky referred to Trump's running mate JD Vance as 'too radical.'
Blaming Biden and Harris for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Trump highlighted his past interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that he 'got along very well' with Putin during his presidency. Trump has a history of praising Putin, even in instances where it conflicted with US intelligence reports.
