Trump Criticizes Harris For Skipping Catholic Charity Dinner

Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Trump addresses auto workers as he skips the second GOP debate, in Clinton Township, Michigan

Former President Donald Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for not attending the Al Smith charity dinner in New York City next month. Trump expressed his belief that any Catholic who voted for Harris 'should have their head examined.' He stated that it would be an 'honor' to attend the Catholic fundraiser on October 17, as reported on Truth Social.

Trump's comments about Catholics are reminiscent of his previous remarks about Jewish Americans. He has previously stated that any Jewish person who votes for Harris 'should have their head examined.'

Trump accused Harris of having a 'history of anti-Catholic actions' and falsely claimed that 'Catholics are literally being persecuted by this Administration.'

The Al Smith dinner, named after the first major-party Catholic presidential nominee, traditionally features light-hearted roasts by the two major-party nominees during presidential election years. In 2016, Trump deviated from this tradition by launching personal attacks on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, surprising attendees.

This year's event is sold out and will take place on October 17. The Al Smith dinner holds historical significance, honoring four-term New York Gov. Al Smith, the Democratic standard-bearer in 1928.
