Trump Continues To Downplay Role In Capitol Insurrection

Donald Trump looks Confident.

Former President Donald Trump recently spoke at a Univision town hall where he continued to downplay his involvement in the violent insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Despite facing federal charges related to the riot, Trump claimed that there was 'nothing done wrong at all' during the events of that day.

During the town hall, a Republican voter expressed concerns about Trump's actions and inactions during his presidency, particularly referencing the events of January 6. The voter questioned why Trump waited so long to take action while his supporters were attacking the Capitol.

In response, Trump defended his supporters, stating that they came to Washington because they believed the election was rigged. He emphasized that he had urged them to protest 'peacefully and patriotically' and denied any wrongdoing on their part.

Trump also addressed the issue of firearms at the Capitol, claiming that the individuals who stormed the building did not have guns. He asserted that it was a 'day of love' and attempted to downplay the severity of the insurrection.

Despite the charges brought against him by special counsel Jack Smith, Trump has pleaded not guilty and continues to assert that the 2020 election was rigged. He has refused to concede his loss to Joe Biden and has maintained these claims throughout his 2024 campaign.

Trump's remarks at the town hall highlight his ongoing efforts to downplay his role in the events of January 6 and to discredit the legitimacy of the 2020 election results.
