President-elect Donald Trump is considering various candidates to lead the US Secret Service, including a right-wing media personality and individuals with experience in the agency.

One of the potential candidates is Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent who has been critical of the agency's leadership in the past. Bongino, who spent over a decade in the Secret Service, has been praised by former colleagues as a stellar agent. However, he has not confirmed any formal discussions about the position.

Another contender for the role is Robert Engel, who previously headed Trump's security detail. Engel testified before the House select committee regarding the events of January 6, 2021, when the US Capitol was attacked following a speech by the former president.

Sean Curran, the current head of Trump's security detail, is also being considered for the position. However, his close relationship with Trump may lead the former president to want him to continue in his current role for the initial years of the new administration.

The selection of the Secret Service director is crucial for the agency's future and holds personal significance for Trump as he finalizes appointments for his incoming administration.
