Former President Donald Trump has called on the Biden administration to disclose the specifics of the recent prisoner swap between Russia and the West. This exchange led to the release of individuals such as Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan, marking the largest prisoner exchange between the two sides since the Cold War.
Trump expressed his curiosity about the details of the swap, questioning the number of individuals involved on each side. He also criticized the US for not making what he considers to be favorable deals, contrasting his own approach during his presidency when he claimed to have secured the release of numerous hostages without giving concessions to other countries.
The prisoner swap encompassed a total of 24 detainees from seven different countries, with Turkey playing a key role as a mediator in the negotiations. In addition to Gershkovich and Whelan, several Russian dissidents were also among those freed in the exchange. Notably, Moscow received a convicted Russian assassin who had been serving a sentence in Germany as part of the agreement.
