Leaked messages from a private Signal group reveal Trump cabinet members criticising European allies.
The messages, obtained after a journalist was mistakenly added to the group, show officials calling European allies "free-loading" and "pathetic."
The group, including Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, discussed US military responses to Houthi attacks.
Disagreements arose regarding European contributions and potential airstrike plans against the Houthis were shared.
Trump dismissed the incident, while former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta called for the officials involved to be fired. Hegseth accused the journalist of fabricating the story.
