President-elect Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Peter Navarro as a senior counselor for trade and manufacturing in his upcoming administration. Navarro, a former adviser during Trump's first term, will be returning to the White House for a second time. This decision was communicated by Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social.

In his announcement, Trump highlighted Navarro's extensive experience in the White House and his skills in policy analysis and media. Navarro's previous tenure was marked by his role as a trade adviser, but he faced legal issues related to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He was held in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the House committee investigating the events of that day and subsequently served a four-month prison sentence.

Following his release, Navarro made a public appearance at the Republican National Convention in July, where he addressed the audience about his experiences, stating that he had gone to prison so others would not have to.
