Trump-Backed Republican Candidate Accused of Lying About Military Record Comes Clean, Admits There's No Proof 'For Any of This Stuff'

Montana Republican Tim Sheehy has admitted that there are no records confirming that he received a bullet wound while stationed overseas during his time in the military after being accused of lying.

"There's not an extensive medical record for any of this stuff," Sheehy told Megyn Kelly during an interview posted to the latter's YouTube channel.

Sheehy, who is running for Senate this year, has stated that he sustained a bullet wound while in Afghanistan. However, Glacier National Park Ranger Kim Peach recounted an incident which occurred during Sheehy's visit to the park in 2015.

"I am 100 percent sure he shot himself that day," Peach said in an interview with the New York Times.

Peach's account matches up with an account of the incident written by Sheehy soon after the incident occurred.

"Upon finishing our hike at Logan's Pass while reloading our vehicle, an improperly placed firearm kept in the vehicle for bear protection fell out and discharged into my right forearm," Sheehy wrote.

Sheehy was charged a fine of $525 for discharging a firearm in the national park, which he paid, as reported by the Washington Post.

This comes as Sheehy faces calls to release his medical records from military veterans within his own state after he claimed that he was discharged from the military due to the detriment of active duty upon his health. Discharge paperwork obtained by NBC News makes no mention of discharge due to medical necessity.

Sheehy acknowledged that such medical records did not even exist during his conversation with Kelly.

"There isn't – I mean, that's the point," Sheehy remarked to Kelly. "You go and you check on it – and you leave. There's not an extensive medical record for any of this stuff."

Kelly then asked Sheehy if he shot himself in the arm.

"No, that was never the allegation," Sheehy said. "That – the point is, you know, it was a friendly fire ricochet downrange that wasn't reported at the time."

Sheehy's colleagues from his time in the military have also stated that they do not recall him ever sustaining such an injury.
