A recent poll conducted by The Washington Post among 1,004 registered voters in Michigan has revealed a close race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. According to the poll results, Trump is leading Harris by a narrow margin of 47% to 45%.
Among voters who expressed their likelihood to vote for Harris over Trump, the numbers were almost evenly split at 47% to 46%. The poll, which was conducted from Oct. 24-28, carries a margin of error of 3.7%.
The survey also highlighted that a significant portion of voters, six out of every ten, view the state of the economy negatively. This sentiment underscores the importance of economic issues in the upcoming election.
When asked about the most critical issues, 57% of respondents identified the economy as 'extremely important,' followed by immigration at 47%, taxes at 44%, healthcare at 42%, abortion at 41%, and U.S. policy on the war in Gaza at 29%.
Trump holds a lead over Harris on several key issues among registered voters. He leads Harris 49-42% on handling the economy, 51-38% on immigration, and 48-38% on the war in Gaza. On the other hand, Harris leads Trump 49-36% on abortion and 46-40% on healthcare.
Interestingly, voters are evenly split on which candidate would better serve middle-class workers. Additionally, opinions are divided on the treatment of undocumented immigrants in the U.S., with 48% in favor of offering them a chance to apply for legal status and 46% supporting deportation to their countries of origin.
The poll results indicate a closely contested race in Michigan, with both Trump and Harris having their strengths on different issues. As the election approaches, the candidates will likely focus on addressing these key concerns to sway undecided voters in their favor.
