Trump And Harris Tie In Dixville Notch Election Results

The first results of the 2024 election day are in from Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, where former President Donald Trump and Vice-president Kamala Harris split the tiny town's six votes. The final count, read out by officials around 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, showed 3 votes for Trump and 3 votes for Harris.

Dixville Notch, a remote unincorporated township in New Hampshire's North Country region, has a tradition of midnight voting that dates back to 1960. The six citizens of Dixville Notch cast their ballots at midnight, with the voting process accompanied by an accordion rendition of the national anthem performed by Cory Pesaturo, a three-time world accordion champion.

In the previous election, then-former Vice President Biden had swept all five votes cast in Dixville Notch, on his way to winning the White House over Trump. This year, all eligible voters in the township gathered at Dixville's Tillotson House to cast their ballots, with voting remaining open until everyone had voted.

While Dixville Notch is known for its midnight voting tradition, other New Hampshire towns like Harts Location and Millfield have also held midnight voting in the past. However, in the 2024 general election, Dixville Notch was the sole location in New Hampshire conducting midnight voting.

Every four years, during the state's presidential primary and general election, reporters and media outlets from around the country and the globe converge on Dixville Notch to cover the midnight vote. Tom Tillotson, the town moderator, humorously remarked that they get their '15 minutes of fame every four years' due to this unique tradition.
