Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are currently engaged in a closely contested race for the White House, according to a recent survey of registered voters. The poll, conducted from Oct. 4-8, revealed that both candidates are neck and neck, with each garnering 48% support in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup.

When third-party candidates were factored in, Trump received 47% support compared to Harris's 46%. The survey also found that 42% of respondents expressed definite support for the Republican ticket, while an equal percentage favored the Democratic ticket. Additionally, 4% leaned towards the GOP ticket, 3% towards the Democratic ticket, and 1% each leaned towards the Democratic and Republican tickets.

Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt, who conducted the survey alongside GOP pollster Bill McInturff, observed that any momentum previously seen for Kamala Harris has stalled, resulting in a dead heat between the two candidates. With Election Day approaching on Nov. 5, 2024, the race remains highly competitive.

Horwitt highlighted the challenges facing both candidates in the final stretch of the campaign. Harris must address voter concerns and provide clarity on her platform, while Trump needs to convince voters that his leadership will be more stable and focused in a potential second term.

The survey also revealed a split among respondents regarding their preferred outcome for the upcoming congressional elections, with 47% favoring a Republican-controlled Congress and an equal percentage supporting a Democrat-controlled Congress.

The survey emphasized that the margin of error for the 1,000 interviews conducted among registered voters is ±3.10%, underscoring the statistical reliability of the findings.
