Trump Aide Investigated For Alleged Financial Misconduct

Donald Trump to testify in New York civil fraud trial

Attorneys for Donald Trump have conducted an internal investigation into allegations against one of his top aides, Boris Epshteyn. The investigation, not of a criminal nature, looked into instances where Epshteyn allegedly sought financial gain from his influence with Trump and others in the president-elect's circle.

Multiple sources familiar with the matter confirmed that Epshteyn was accused of requesting payment in exchange for promoting candidates for administration positions or offering to connect individuals with relevant people in the upcoming administration. In one instance, he allegedly asked for as much as $100,000 per month for his services.

The investigation led to a recommendation that Epshteyn should be removed from Trump's proximity and not be employed or paid by Trump entities, although as of now, the transition team has not acted on this recommendation.

Epshteyn, known for his combative personality, has been a divisive figure within Trump's inner circle. While he has not been accused of illegal behavior, the internal investigation reflects the team's caution around potentially unsavory activities.

Trump himself stated that he does not condone staffers soliciting consulting fees from individuals seeking jobs in the administration, emphasizing that he makes all decisions regarding endorsements and nominations.

The investigation also focused on claims that Epshteyn asked Trump's pick for Treasury secretary to pay him for promoting his name with Trump and others. Epshteyn has denied these allegations and described the services he offers as consulting.

Despite the internal review and allegations, Epshteyn's allies dismiss the accusations as misunderstandings and attribute them to newer associates not grasping the dynamic between Epshteyn and Trump.

While Epshteyn has been a key figure in Trump's inner circle, he has not been offered a formal role in the incoming administration. He faces criminal charges in Arizona related to efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results.
