Trump Administration Reportedly Pushes For Romania To Lift Restrictions On Andrew Tate

The Trump administration has reportedly been putting pressure on Romania to ease up on Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan. Yes, you read that right — the same Andrew Tate who has been accused of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.

According to the Financial Times, US officials have been busy behind the scenes, trying to get the Romanian government to lift travel restrictions on the controversial influencer and his brother.

The Tate brothers, who shot to fame through social media with their controversial takes on toxic masculinity, have been embroiled in legal troubles in Romania since 2022. Despite the gravity of their charges, both Andrew and Tristan have consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The issue was apparently brought up in a phone call with Romanian authorities, according to FT, and then again when Trump’s special envoy Richard Grenell had a chat with Romania’s foreign minister at the Munich Security Conference.

Grenell, who’s been quite vocal in his support for the Tates, posted on X that Romania was the “latest example” of how “USAid programs were weaponised against people and politicians who weren’t woke”.

The Tate brothers have made no secret of their support for Trump. After Trump’s November victory, Andrew Tate excitedly posted on X: “I’m moving back to America.”

However, this is in fact impossible, at the moment, as both brothers must remain in Romania as their legal battles are investigated. They were previously under house arrest until a judge granted a little more flexibility to the brothers in January.

A Financial Times source reports that a request was made from the US government to return the brothers’ passports and allow them to travel freely as they wait for court proceedings to wrap up.

Romania’s foreign minister, Emil Hurezeanu, confirmed that the US did indeed bring up the Tate brothers’ case. He told local media, “Richard Grenell told me he is interested in the fate of the Tate brothers. I am interested, as you well know, in the fate of the Tate brothers”, per The Independent.

The Tate brothers have previously stated how much they have been involved in the US election.

Tristan boasted on social media in November 2024 about their influence, claiming that “millions of young men in Europe and the USA have a healthy rightwing approach to politics that they would NOT have if Andrew Tate had never appeared on their phone screens”.

Andrew, not to be outdone, took to X with his own dramatic declaration in January: “It was [President] Biden who locked us up in the first place. USAid-sponsored attack.”

He went on to promise an exposé that would “blow your minds about the levels of corruption under the Democrats and currently still in Europe”.

While this drama unfolds, it’s important to remember that the Tate brothers are still facing serious allegations. They’re currently “under judicial control” in Romania, meaning they can travel within the country “while adhering to the required legal conditions”. They’re also wanted for questioning in the UK over separate rape and human trafficking accusations.
