Trump Admin Blasted for 'Lying' About War Plans Leak After Journalist Added to Signal Group Publishes Full Texts: 'Is This Treason?'

Members of the Trump administration cabinet are being blasted by social media users for denying that highly sensitive military plans were shared with a journalist in a Signal group chat after the full messages were published online.

Administration officials included in the Signal group chat spoke to Congress on Tuesday. They were questioned by senators as to who was involved with the text chain and what kinds of information was shared.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was unable to confirm or deny her involvement in the group chat while testifying, with CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirming her inclusion instead. Both intelligence officials testified that "no classified material" was shared in the group chat.

The officials were supported by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who slammed Jeff Goldberg, the Editor-in-Chief of The Atlantic who was accidentally included on the group chat and broke the story, for putting a "sensationalist spin" onto his coverage. She also reiterated that "no classified material was sent to the thread".

President Donald Trump himself stated that "was no classified information as I understand it," when asked about the group chat.

Following these denials, Goldberg released the texts sent to the thread, which included details pertaining to the strategy against the Houthi movement in Yemen.

Social media users responded by mocking Trump administration officials for their denials, but also by seriously criticizing their actions.

"This is a big deal .......They all said under oath nothing was classified ..... This is classified information and they all need to be punished for this . This is unacceptable," said one user.

"Gabbard and her cohorts were lying yesterday?" wrote another user, including a sarcastic reaction GIF feigning shock.

"This is what happens when you put a Fox News talk show host in charge of the military," another user wrote.

"Is this treason at this point?" said another.

Goldberg previously stated that he was added to the message thread by National Security Advisor Michael Waltz earlier this month.

"We've pretty much looked into it. It's pretty simple, to be honest ... It's just something that can happen. It can happen," Trump said Tuesday.

"Well, I mean, look, we look at everything and, you know, they've made a big deal out of this because we've had two perfect months," Trump continued.
