Communications advisory firm True North has appointed two new senior advisers.
Former MP, writer and editor Eilidh Whiteford and author and former political adviser Andrew Liddle have joined the Aberdeen-headquartered business, established last year by managing partners Geoff Aberdein and Fergus Mutch.
Whiteford was MP for Banff and Buchan from 2010 to 2017, serving as a front bench spokesperson on international development, agriculture and fisheries, then latterly on social justice and welfare.
She has experience in the food and drink, agriculture, higher education and the third sector, having worked in public affairs, campaigns and communications for charities, including Oxfam. She also taught Scottish literature at Glasgow University for several years.
Edinburgh-based Andrew Liddle is a former political journalist, senior Labour party adviser and, more recently, adviser to the US Consulate General in Edinburgh.
He is currently a weekly columnist with The Courier, where he was formerly chief reporter, and has also served as political correspondent for The Press and Journal. Away from journalist, he is the author of two books on Scottish history and politics: Cheers, Mr. Churchill! Winston in Scotland, and Ruth Davidson and the Resurgence of the Scottish Tories.
Aberdein commented: “We are delighted to appoint Eilidh and Andrew as True North’s newest senior advisers.
“They both bring a wealth of experience of a range of different sectors and disciplines and, as we continue to grow our own company, their contributions will be invaluable to all the businesses and organisations we are privileged to support.”
Whiteford said: “As we emerge from what have undoubtedly been a tough few years, I hope I'll be able to assist organisations and businesses and be well-prepared to meet the opportunities and challenges ahead.“
Liddle said: “In a time of political uncertainty in Scotland and across the UK, it is more important than ever that businesses receive sound strategic advice and I believe my experience in the media and as a Labour Party advisor will help compliment the expertise of the team.”
They join Aileen Easton, chief corporate affairs adviser, who has been with the firm since last year, and Martin Gilbert, who acts as the firm's business ambassador.
True North is headquartered in Bon Accord Square in Aberdeen and already supports more than 15 businesses and organisations working in energy transition, financial services and food and drink.
