Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to meet with King Charles III, the head of state in Canada, on Monday to address concerns regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's recent threats to annex Canada. The King has faced criticism for his silence on the matter, with many Canadians expressing disappointment over the lack of response.

During a visit to London, Trudeau emphasized the importance of standing up for Canadian sovereignty and independence as a nation. The antiroyal sentiment in Canada has been growing, fueled by the King's perceived inaction in the face of Trump's threats.

Former Alberta Premier Jason Kenney called on the Government of Canada to request the King to underscore Canadian sovereignty in the wake of these developments. The King, who recently met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has extended an invitation to President Trump for a state visit to Scotland.

Constitutional lawyer Lyle Skinner and political science professor Daniel Béland both highlighted the significance of a public statement from the King on behalf of Canada. Béland stressed the delicate nature of the diplomatic situation, urging caution in handling the issue to avoid any negative repercussions.

While Canadians have historically shown indifference towards the monarchy, the late Queen Elizabeth was widely respected and admired. Calls for abolishing the monarchy would require constitutional changes, a complex process given Canada's diverse population and cultural landscape.

As the meeting between Trudeau and King Charles III approaches, many Canadians are eager to see how the situation unfolds and whether the King will address concerns regarding Canada's sovereignty in the face of external threats.
