Trucks and vans were filled up yesterday with items donated from the public to Dumfries-based charity, Massive Outpouring Of Love – D&G Refugee Action for Ukrainians fleeing the war.
The team of volunteers has been given use of a depot at Marchmount Drive, by Dumfries and Galloway Council, for a month to sort and pack aid for the refugees.
MOOL joined forces with another organisation, OPIR, which is running the aid convoy to get the goods to the refugees. A public appeal on social media at Givey.com/opiraidforukraine has already raised more than £13,500 to fund the trips.
Members of the public have handed in a massive amount of specifically asked-for items for Ukraine and last week MOOL volunteers boxed them all up ready for yesterday’s busy afternoon helping load up the convoy which will leave today.
A last minute appeal had been sounded for new underwear and stationery on Wednesday.
MOOL said they will announce when more donations of items are needed in the future and, in a statement, said: “Thank you all for your amazing support over the last couple of weeks. It’s been truly incredible.”
The charity is still appealing for “notes of love” for refugees from all ages in Dumfriesshire which are put in with donated items for all their refugee work in the UK, France and across the world.
They are asking that anyone creating a written or creative artwork does not to put their own name or any religious wording on.
Alternatively, the public are invited to create a piece of embroidery or sewing but it must be folded up small.
Meanwhile, Yoga From The Heart Dumfries held a yoga fundraiser at Lincluden Community Centre on Saturday for MOOL’s Ukrainian refugee work and raised an amazing £1,090.
