Truck rollover near Branxton sparks extended emergency response

File image.

Police were diverting traffic for more than two hours on the New England Highway in the Hunter Valley on Wednesday night after a truck apparently clipped a guard rail and rolled around 4.30pm.

Officers remained on the scene into the night, as the vehicle was eventually righted around 7pm.

There were no apparent injuries, but officers were on the scene near Branxton on Wine Country Drive for some time, diverting traffic around the scene.

Traffic reports indicated the road remained opened, and drivers were urged to travel safely.

The crash followed a sudden downpour across parts of the region on Wednesday afternoon, November 13, in which SES crews responded to around seven calls for help. Damage was negligible in the relatively short deluge, but and SES spokesperson urged residents to keep abreast of the forecast and to avoid flood waters, downed branches and powerlines.

A trough settled across inland parts of the state throughout the day, bringing unsettled conditions that were expected to linger through the later end of the week, with cloudy conditions setting a common theme in the outlook on Thursday, Friday and the weekend. Tops of 27 degrees on Thursday, warming to 33 by Sunday.

The details of this report are developing. It may be updated.
