Truck driver charged with death by dangerous driving after pedestrian killed at Melrose Park

A truck driver has been charged over a crash that killed a pedestrian in Adelaide's south on Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to South Road at Melrose Park about 9am, after reports a truck struck a pedestrian.

A 64-year-old man from Melrose Park died at the scene.

Last night, police arrested the truck driver, a 31-year-old man from Clearview, and charged him with causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated driving without due care.

He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in May.

The man's death was the 16th loss of life on South Australian roads this year, compared with four at the same time last year.

Two of the people killed this year have been pedestrians. Along with the man killed on Sunday, the other was an elderly woman who died three days after being hit by a car that left the road in Victor Harbor.
