A driver has died after a serious crash on the New South Wales Mid North Coast which resulted in a truck and car fire and closed lanes in both directions on the Pacific Highway.
The crash happened at Boolambayte, north of Bulahdelah, on Thursday morning.
Emergency services are on the scene, including the Rural Fire Service and a Fire and Rescue NSW Hazmat vehicle to manage fuel.
The driver of the car, who has not been formally identified, died at the scene.
The male truck driver, aged 62, was taken to Manning Base Hospital for minor injuries including cuts and mandatory testing.
Mid North Coast Rural Fire Service district manager Ugo Telone said it took crews about an hour to contain the fires.
"Crews arrived on scene and saw the two vehicles engulfed with fire and a small area of bush alight," Mr Telone said.
"Members were using breathing apparatus for the toxic smoke and fumes that were given off," he said.
"It took a little while to get it under control, units are still on the scene at the moment".
One lane of traffic has been opened in each direction on the northbound side of the highway, with traffic very heavy both ways.
Traffic Management Centre spokesperson Melissa Corneho said motorists should be cautious and expect delays.
"It is quite a serious crash," Ms Corneho said.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
