Tropical Storm Debby has made its way into the U.S. Southeast, unleashing long torrential downpours and causing widespread flooding after impacting Florida with heavy rain and high winds. The storm, which was previously a Category 1 hurricane, has resulted in at least five fatalities and continues to pose a significant threat to several states along the Atlantic Coast.

Despite weakening over land, Debby is still drawing energy from the warm ocean waters, according to experts. The storm's center is expected to move back over the Atlantic before potentially restrengthening as it heads towards Georgia and South Carolina. Tropical storm warnings have been issued from northeastern Florida to North Carolina, with catastrophic flooding anticipated in parts of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina through the end of the week.

Charleston, South Carolina, has activated emergency measures, including distributing sandbags to residents and opening parking garages to protect vehicles from floodwaters. In Sarasota, Florida, hundreds of individuals have been rescued from flooded homes, exceeding initial rainfall predictions. Manatee County officials have also reported numerous rescues due to the unprecedented weather conditions.
