Tropical Storm Carlotta is intensifying over the Pacific Ocean, gaining strength as it moves away from Mexico. Forecasters predict that the storm could potentially escalate into a hurricane by Thursday night or Friday.
According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Carlotta currently boasts maximum sustained winds of 65 mph (105 kph). The storm is positioned approximately 395 miles (635 kilometers) south-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California, with a west-northwest trajectory at 12 mph (19 kph).
The hurricane center has issued warnings regarding the impact of Carlotta's swells. These swells are expected to generate life-threatening surf and rip current conditions along Mexico's west-central mainland coast and the southern Baja California peninsula throughout the weekend.
